‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy’ Review – Spotlight Report

For 24 years, Bridget Jones has captured the hearts of millions of fans all across the globe. Now in 2025, she is gracing the silver screen for one last time in ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy’.
This fourth instalment of the Bridget Jones franchise was directed by Michael Morris who has done a fantastic job at capturing the essence of what makes this franchise so popular but at the same time, making this feel like a standalone film.
The film explores many different emotional avenues that audiences will be able to find very relatable. We learn that Bridget’s (Renée Zellweger) husband, Mark (Colin Firth), has passed away in between the last film and this one. We see Bridget living her life as a single parent and trying to juggle keeping up with her kids, getting herself back into the dating scene and getting back into the routine of full time work.
This film explores grief in many ways and depicts how it affects so many different people but one that stands out is how the death of Mark affects their son, Billy (Casper Knopf). As the film progresses, Billy seems more and more withdrawn from School, friends and family and we soon realise it is because of his fear of forgetting his Dad.
It’s moments like these throughout the film that keeps it incredibly grounded and one of the best aspects of this film is, it doesn’t lessen the gravity of these scenes with comedic moments. It lets these scenes breathe and have the impact on the audience that they’re supposed to.
With that being said there are still many comedic moments through the film that audiences and fans of the franchise will appreciate as it gives the film that classic Bridget Jones flare.
The entire cast did an exceptional job with this film and it was such a treat to be able to see where they took these characters.
‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy’’ is a welcomed addition to the franchise and is a satisfying final film for fans to say farewell to some of their favourite characters that they’ve grown to love.
