Rumy Jafry, a close friend of the Kapoor family, recalls a poignant memory from Raj Kapoor’s Deonar bungalow, which was being demolished. He requested a keepsake and received Raj Kapoor’s beloved wrought iron sofa. Raj Kapoor favored this spot for music, writing, and evening drinks, making the sofa a cherished memento for Rumy.

Rumy Jafry, a close friend of the Kapoor family, recalls a special memory from Raj Kapoor’s Deonar bungalow. As the iconic house was being demolished, he asked for a keepsake to remember the legend by, and was given Raj Kapoor’s beloved sofa, a piece that still holds sentimental value today.
Talking to ETimes, Rumy shared, “The Deonar bungalow was being demolished, so I asked Randhir Kapoor to host a small party at the house. He organised a dinner for all his friends.”

Elaborating further, he added, “I told Dabbooji I needed something to remember Raj Kapoor by, and he agreed. Dabbooji had already moved to Bandra. So, I took my son with me to the house, and we took pictures everywhere. Initially, I thought I would take the bed, but it couldn’t fit in my house. Then, I saw a wrought iron sofa set facing the lawn. Raj Kapoor Saab didn’t like closed spaces and often sat outside. I was told he used to sit there for music and writing sessions, and he preferred to have his evening drinks there. I brought that sofa to my house, and strangely, people who visit recognise it.”
